Verona started well against lowly Preugia with a Mario Frick blast in the 16th minute but Malesani's men ended up going down 3-1 which stalls their hunt for a UEFA Cup berth. Frick seized a Paolo Cannavaro pass to hammer home past Perugia's new-signing Oscar Cordoba but Verona struggled to maintain their momentum and were threatened by Zisis Vryzas as the break loomed. The leveller came 12 minutes into the second period when Rahman Rezaei took his chance after keeper Ferron had blocked a Fabio Grosso free-kick and netted from close range. Perugia's South Korean international Jung Hwan Ahn then powered Cosmi's men into the lead with a diving header finishing off a Ze Maria cross. Midway through the half, Verona were beaten when Cannavaro was red-carded for a second bookable offence and Perugia were able to crack the defence once again with Giovanni Tedesco on target to seal a clear win. Were it not for Ferron's defiance between the sticks, Malesani could have been on the wrong end of a rout. www.varzeshkar.com
