GOAL - Iran, Qatar and Syria
have qualified for the semi-finals of the West Asian Football Federation
(WAFF) Championship on Saturday.
Iran defeated Palestine 3-0 in their opening match, secured their spot in
the semi-finals, after Qatar beat Palestine 1-0 on Saturday. Iran will face
Qatar on Monday in the final group match.
Fahd Al Shammari netted the only goal of the match in the 72nd minute to
give Jorge Fossati’s team a win.
Syria, who drew with Jordan in the first game, beat Oman 2-1 to qualify for
the semi-finals. Muhannad Ibrahim fired Syria ahead on 11 minutes. The
Omanis however, equalised through Hashem Saleh in the 13th minute.
Mohammad Abbadi netted the winning goal for Syria in the 71st minute. To
qualify for the last semi-final spot, Oman have to defeat Jordan on Monday
in the final group match.
