MNA - After a five weeks
winless run, Persepolis Football Team defeated Malavan Bandar Anzali here at
Azadi Stadium on Friday in the 28th week of Iran Professional League to
return to the title race.
The Tehran-based team won 2-0 over the rock-bottom Malavan and closed the
gap on IPL leaders Isfahan’s Sepahan to five points.
In front of 30,000 fans, Mohsen Khalili gave the lead the Reds in the 64th
minute and Alireza Nikbakht Vahedi doubled the score from the penalty spot
in the 76th minute.
Esteghlal, another Tehran’s popular team, lost 2-0 to host Abumoslem of
Mashhad.
Sepahan held to a 1-1 draw against Kerman’s Mes as Saba Battery,
second-placed team, failed to win struggling Shirin Faraz of Kermanshah and
ended in a 2-2 draw.
Persepolis remains in third place with 45 points while Sepahan and Saba
Battery are first and second respectively with 50 and 46 points.
