AFC - Abu Moslem striker Reza Enayati is delighted with his 'Mr Goal' accolade, awarded to the top scorer of Iran's recently concluded Professional League, won by Pirouzi. Enayati scored 17 goals in the 2001/02 season, which put him way ahead of second-placed Ali Asghar Modirroosta (Peykan) and Sohrab Entezari (Pirouzi), with 10 goals. However, the striker only secured the scoring title after his astonishing seven goals in Abu Moslem's 9-2 victory over Esteghlal Rasht in the final round of the league. "I decided to score as many goals as I could because of the newspapers repeating the fact I had only scored 10 goals [before the last match of the season]. Thank God I made it," Enayati told reporters. "I'm very happy to have gained the title of Mr Goal in the first season of the Professional League. "I owe the title to the support given to me by Imam Reza and the fans, coaches and players of my team. I congratulate Abu Moslem and the people of Khorasan province." |
