Iran wins DHL 2006 Soccer Tournament

DHL Iran took the trophy home at this year’s DHL 2006 Soccer Tournament, held at the American Express Bahrain Rugby Football Club in Saar, after a penalty shoot out in the final against last year’s winners, The Bahrain - Hub Flyers.

16 DHL teams; Iran, Bahrain - Hub Flyers, KSA Central Province - Winners of the Plate Trophy, Bahrain - Hub Metros, Bahrain Area Office, Bahrain Aviation, Bahrain Country Office, KSA Country Office, KSA Eastern Province, KSA Western Province, UAE – 1st Team, UAE – 2nd Team, Oman, Iraq & Afghanistan, Qatar, and Kuwait, came from across the region to participate in the annual tournament.

Phil Couchman, DHL Middle East Regional Director, commented: “The day was a great success. The teams who came from around the region played fantastically and demonstrated some amazing soccer skills.”

“Sameer Qaheri, Captain of the Bahrain Hub Flyers, won the Huw Lewis - Player of the Match award,” explained Nour Suliman, Bahrain Country Manager, adding: “but he decided to dedicate his award to Yasser Rasool - a fellow player who was injured on during one of the games.”

“Sameer is a prime example of teamwork and of the DHL spirit,” commented Bachi Spiga, DHL Middle East Operations Manager. “We are all very proud of Iran’s win and look forward to another great tournament next year.”
