IRNA - Hamburger SV`s new coach Klaus Toppmoeller plans to definitely keep Iranian right-winger Mehdi Mahdavikia whose contract is set to expire at the end of this season, the daily Bild said in its Tuesday issue.
Toppmoeller who replaced fired coach Kurt Jara last week, said he wants to hold on to Mahdavikia and his Czech teammate Tomas Ujfalusi while the team will be undergoing a major rebuilding effort
to become more competitive.
The press reported earlier that contract extension talks between the ex-Pirouzi striker and the north German club have reportedly stalled as a result of Mahdavikia`s 3-million-euro wage demand.
Mahdavikia had repeatedly been linked to several top English Premier League teams.
