Tehranchronicle - Iranian football player Ali Karimi announced his retirement from professional football. Today Persepolis FC defeated by Sepahan in Iran’s Hazfi Cup final.


“I announce my retirement from football tonight. I think it’s better for me to concentrate on my personal life. I also quit my international career, and will no longer play for Iran national football team. Sometimes some events make you go with other options.” Ali Karimi told reporter after the game.

“I made this decision from days ago, and it doesn’t have something to do with the result of this final.  I had experienced good and bad time during my professional career. By the way, I am happy with my decision.” Ali Karimi concluded.

Mohammad Royanian, the president of Persepolis FC, announced that he will talk with Karimi to convince him continuing his career for one more season with Reds.

Karimi started his youth career in Naft Tehran in 1990.  He has served as player for different Iranian and foreigner football clubs including Fath Tehran, Persepolis, Al-Ahli, Bayern Munich, Qatar SC, Al-Sailiya, Steel Azin and Schalke 04. Ali Karimi had participated in five major tournaments including 1998 Asian Games, 2000, 2004, and 2007 Asian Cups and 2006 FIFA World Cup.

He made his debut in Team Melli in 1998. Karimi played 127 times for Iran national football team, and scored 38 goals.
