Esteghlal overcomes Peykan 2 – 1

PLDC - Esteghlal Tehran faced Peykan Tehran at Takhti stadium in the 8th week of the Iranian Professional League and defeated them with the score of 2-1. Esteghlal now has 14 points and is in third place in the league table. Peykan is still at the bottom of the league table with only two scored goals after 8 matches.

The first goal of the match was the handiwork of Mehdi Hasheminasab of Esteghlal, who headed it into the net on a corner pass in the 7th minute. Samereh came close to scoring in the 12th minute of the match and several times after that. Vahedi Nikbakht headed the ball into the net on a pass from Akbarpour in the 73th minute to give Esteghlal their second goal.
Amir Houshang Sharifi scored the second goal of the season for Peykan in the 47th minute of the match. Esteghlal’s defence line was not as strong as the first half and it allowed Peykan to almost get through and score several times in the second half. Hossein Memar of Peykan got a yellow card for his foul on Momenzadeh in the 63rd minute of the match. The foul by an
Esteghlal defender on Amin Mohtashami of Peykan in the Esteghlal goalmouth area in the 89th minute became a penalty. Davoud Haghdoost of Peykan shot the penalty wide to disappoint his team. The match ended after three minutes of injury time.

This was a very exciting and motivated match, which was played on a very rough pitch which took away all the energy of both sides and was condemned by the head coach of Esteghlal, Ronald Koch. A full ninety minutes of action and attacks and counters was well played and fairly refereed.
