PLDC - According to Shahrokh Bayani, veteran Iranian player, Esteghlal Tehran has improved since Ronald Koch, head coach, took over the club and the team plays a finer and more logical game. He is not only in support of
the German coach but says that the team will improve in the future.

Bayani said, “Jakij, ex-head coach, took over Esteghlal after the revolution and taught them to move without the ball and practiced single shot and double shot moves. After he left the team stopped making any more
progress and now Koch is doing the same thing. He has been trying to make the players understand the basics of football and give the team more speed in the process so they have gained poor results, which is natural
as our players are not professionals.”

“We are trying to make a 32 year old player into a professional, where as players must learn the concept of professionalism from the age of 10. We are wasting our energy in such cases as our unprofessional player is more willing to play than sit on the bench. When on the bench he will create side issues and we expect to get results with such problems facing us.”

“Such things make problems for us. I believe that if Esteghlal makes better use of opportunities and their self confidence is restored, they’ll score 3 or 4 goals per match. Esteghlal is helping its opponents by pulling back when they are ahead in each game.”
