PTV - Iran's parliamentarians say they go to the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI) if the FFIRI president Ali Kaffashian fails to attend the Majlis (Iran's parliament) for a meeting on August 2.

“The FFIRI president and Iran's national soccer team coach (Afshin Qotbi) are scheduled to attend a meeting with the Majlis' Cultural Committee,” head of the Physical Education Committee of the Majlis, Jalal Yahyazadeh, told Fars news agency on Saturday.

The FFIRI officials and the country's soccer coach are to go to the Majlis to explain Iran's failure to qualify for the 2010 World Cup. The meeting, however, has not been held yet for various unknown reasons.

“Although we haven't been formally informed, I have heard that the meeting won't probably be held,” Yahyazadeh added.

“If Kaffashian fails to attend the Majlis' Sunday session, the MPs will go to the federation,” he noted.

On July 5, the FFIRI Vice President, Mehdi Taj, said that the federation disagreed with parliamentarians' involvement in the country's football affairs.

"We are responsible to answer people and the deputies, but oppose the deputies involvement in the administrative affairs in the country's football, that is, to decide about the federation's managers," Taj said.

"The FFIRI and Majlis are both for the country's football achievements, but the most important thing is privatization, which is being interfered with by the Majlis," he added.

Iran national soccer team failed to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa after it was held to a 1-1 draw against South Korea in Seoul on June 17.
