Gulf News - Al
Wahda clinched the top place in the First division football league after
they defeated Al Ittihad at the latter's stadium in Kalba 3-1.
Al Wahda have now 30 points and are on top of the table. This is a great
achievement for the Abu Dhabi based club who had a poor start at the beginning
of the league last October.
Ismail Mattar scored the first goal for Al Wahda while the new
professional Felix of Ghana scored the second.
Felix played his first match with Wahda after he was signed in the place
of Qattari striker Mohammed Ennazy. Ennazy showed poor form in the current
season despite the fact that he was the league's top goalscorer in the
last two seasons.
Al Wahda second professional Colombian Castello hit the third goal, while
Ibrahim Mohammed scored a consolation for the home team in the last
minutes.
In the second match held at Rashid stadium in Dubai, Al Wasl snatched a
valuable win from Rashid stadium when they defeated Al Ahli 3-2 and halted
the home team from advancing to catch up with the top places.
Iranian Farhad Majidi was the Al Wasl hero yesterday. He scored the second
and third goals in the 47th and injury time of the match with defender
Ismail Rashid who opened the score for Al Wasl in the 14th minute.
Iranian Jawad Qazimyan and Faisal Khalil scored for Ahli in the 18th and
58th minute. Al Wasl are in a safe place now away from the relegation zone
with 18 points and Al Ahli stay in the fourth place with 25 points.
Al Nasr failed to score their first win in the second round after they
were held to a 1-1 draw by Sharjah at the Al Maktoum stadium.
Al Nasr topped the first round in style with 22 points. However they drew
in two matches and lost two and are now in the fifth place with 24 points.
They are six points adrift of leaders Al Wahda and their hopes to win the
league title have become slim.
Al Nasr played the last three minutes with ten players after the referee
showed red card to midfielder Salah Abbas in the 87th minute for his
second bookable offence.
Al Nasr lost two scoring chances in the first session. Nabil Rabee's
right–footer was saved by Sharjah custodian Muhssin Mussabah and Walid
benefited from the bounced ball. He passed to Maher Kanzari who crossed to
Semba in front of Sharjah goal, but was cleared by Sharjah defenders in
the 20th minute.
The second came in the 34th minute when Muhssin saved Mohammed Khamis
cracker from 35 meters. Brazilian Anderson De Kar in his debut scored for
Sharjah against the run of play in 38th minute with a powerful shot from
the edge of the box. Al Nasr attacked through Semba and Walid Murad with
good support from Kanzari and Salah Abbas.
Walid scored the equaliser for Al Nasr in the 74th minute when Mohammed
Ibrahim floated a high corner kick which went to Walid near the far post.
He fired a left footer from close range inside a narrow angle.
In the last minute Semba lost a good chance to score the winner for Al
Nasr when he headed Walid's cross far from target with the goal wide open
infront of him.
In the fourth match, Dubai club held Al Shaab to a 1-1 draw at Al Aweer
stadium. Bubilal and Khalid Zaid scored for the home team and Abdul Rahim
Choclate and Nabil Ibrahim levelled for Al Shaab.
Dubai club advanced to the ninth place with 15 points while Al Shaab
dropped to the third place with 29 points.
